Satyajit Karmaker

Mr. Satyajit Karmaker joined as Secretary of Planning Division under Ministry of Planning on 01 January 2023. He was promoted to the rank of Secretary on 9 May 2021. He joined as Member (Secretary) of Physical Infrastructure Division under Planning Commission on 26 July 2022. Prior to joining the current post, he has served as Chairman (Secretary), Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council.
Satyajit Karmaker joined the Bangladesh Civil Service on 11 December 1991. He is an officer of BCS Administration Cadre. In his long career he held various important posts both in the field administration and secretariat. He started his career as an Assistant Commissioner in Natore Collectorate. Later he worked as the Upazila Nirbahi Officer in Fulbari Upazila of Kurigram District. He was working as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka. He was also the Additional Deputy Commissioner in Bandarban district. He held various posts in the Finance Division, Bridges Division, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Commerce. He has also working experience in the APD wing of the Ministry of Public Administration.
He worked in the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance for about 15 years. While working in the Finance Division, he was actively involved in budget preparation process and gender budgeting at the outset of the introduction of the Medium Term Budget Framework. He also played a vital role in formulating policies and strategies for allocating budgets to the Social Safety Net Program (SSNP). He formulated a concept paper on Disability Identification Survey on the basis of which Disability Identification Survey is being conducted in the country. He also worked as a Gender and Social Development Specialist in the Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) project under the Finance Division.
He received training both at home and abroad on theoretical and practical issues related to public finance management, government budget management and social safety net strategies. He has traveled to Indonesia, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Kuwait, Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, India, China, Italy, Switzerland, France, Canada, New Zealand, the Philippines and Turkey.
Satyajit Karmaker was born in Eklashpur of Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district. His father Dhirendra Kumar Karmaker was a renowned lawyer of Noakhali. Her mother's name is Anjali Karmaker. He passed SSC from Arun Chandra High School, Noakhali in 1980 and HSC from Noakhali Government College in 1982. He holds a Master's degree with BSS (Hons) from the Department of Public Administration, Dhaka University. He later completed a Masters in Economics and Finance for Development from Bradford University in the United Kingdom.
Satyajit Karmaker is married and his wife Major (Retd) Shantana Rani Dutta is a physician by profession. Their two daughters Aditi Karmaker and Senjuti Karmaker are currently pursuing higher studies.
